La ville de Pretty Lake est frappée par une mystérieuse maladie qui tue tous les adultes. Seuls les habitants qui ont moins de 22 ans semblent épargnés par le terrible mal. Un étudiant, qui a piraté une base de données gouvernementale, en a eu la certitude en lisant des statistiques top secrètes. Dans la localité, aussitôt placée en quarantaine par les autorités, les jeunes survivants tentent de se débrouiller par eux-mêmes. Ils commencent par enterrer les morts. Une jeune femme professeur, qui va bientôt avoir 22 ans, craint d'être la prochaine victime du virus. Une série apocalyptique qui fonctionne comme une contre-utopie.
