A wide range of reptiles, including bearded dragons and green iguanas, require UV for their health and well-being. UV provides them with vitamin D3 and other nutrients, which are needed for them to absorb calcium. Without UV, they can fall prey to diseases like MBD (Metabolic Bone Disease), which can be fatal.
Special UV lighting is needed in their cages to provide them with an adequate amount of UV; however, nothing beats the natural rays of the sun, which give nearly three times the amount of light any bulb could.
