STORY: The hotel housing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was the target of protesters on Monday, who believe the hotel shouldn't host the Iranian leader, who is in New York for the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In past U.N. sessions, Ahmadinejad's anti-Western comments on the Holocaust have caused international outcry and isolated Iran, which is at odds with the West over its nuclear program.
And on Monday, Ahmadinejad disregarded a U.N. warning to avoid incendiary rhetoric and declared ahead of the annual General Assembly session that Israel has no roots in the Middle East and would be "eliminated".
The Iranian president was allowed to stay at the luxury New York hotel after a U.S. judge rejected an Israeli suicide bombing victim's bid to claim the reservation made by the leader.
Ahmadinejad will address the U.N. on Wednesday, for what is expected to be last time before he completes his term as Iran's president next year.
