The headquarters of the NATO forces integration was opened in Riga.
On the 1st of September this unit received the status of international military headquarters. Thus, for the first time in the history of the Republic of Latvia on the territory of the country the permanent headquarters of the NATO force structure was placed. Its main task is to promote the rapid and coordinated deployment of increased combat readiness of the Alliance in the region, to support planning for collective defense and participate in the coordination of military exercises.
