Zero Power RFID
The Zero Power RFID or “burst switch” technology allows RFID tags to be shut off most of the time to conserve energy, operating on residual power that is enough for them to be woken up by the signal. The wake-up signal can be directed to specific RFID tags, obviating the need for all of the tags to be activated at the same time.
The Zero Power RFID technology was developed at the Swanson School of Engineering University of Pittsburgh. For more information about commercialization of the technology visit the T-RIC Consortium website at http://technologyacceleration.org
